A Busy Day Ranch this Weekend

ML Ranch Jewelry had a busy weekend. We belong to a local Equine rescue here in South East Idaho.  The authorities here have seize a number of horses starting Saturday and continuing this week till the owner is down to minimum of horses, which will be decided today. The will be owner notified of the number horses the authorities have chosen. The owner is unable to pay for these horses hay and veterinary needs. On Saturday and Phoenix Equine Rescue will move them to a place where their care and needs can be met.

We picked up the first of those horses Saturday. These horses have some issues that a veterinarian will have to diagnose.  These horses will face blood tests, fecal sampling, teeth floating, and whatever else is decided they will need.

Phoenix Equine Rescue is looking for donations to provide for these horses. Here is the note that I posted on our Facebook pages. Thank you for your kind consideration and any donation you might make.

ML Ranch Jewelry spent last Friday evening taking pictures of new jewelry to go into the online stores.  A good share of the this new inventory will be bracelets. We were low in our collection of them.  This will be good to have more to shop from. I have added 2 of the new pieces to our online stores.

Linda is completing several of the Viking Knit pieces. She is has started a seed bead that will be incorporated into a necklace. Seed beads take patience and time to complete the piece of work.

Well it is 6 in the morning here. We will start on the new picture cropping once we have more coffee consumed. Being up since 4 today and after a 18 hour day yesterday and my MS shot last nite, I will need coffee to get started. However a nap won’t be too far off. I will be taking horses to the vet later this morning.  I  will grab a nap when I can, as it is going to be a hetic week with the rescue horses.

ML Ranch Jewelry is having a “Spring into Spring “Sale.  Everything is marked down 40% for this sale.  Check out our online stores.

A Wet, Cold and Snowy Day the Ranch on Friday

Well Friday was a good day to stay inside. We had snow and  snow showers most of the day. In town the snow didn’t amount to much. Out at the track there was about 2 inches when I went out to feed the ponies.  I am really glad foe the area I moved  to the ponies this winter. I have 5 stalls that has a black top apron for about 10 feet in front of them. It is nice to not have to fight the snow and mud like there is in front of  the old ones. Also there is an overhang in front of the stalls which gives a dry area to work in also. I am not moving this spring. I am going to keep them there. I will put up fans in the stalls to move the air and lower the heat but I am not moving.

In the past during race horse season I had to move for the race boys.  This year there is only 3 weekends of racing.  They will find it hard to fill a race card.  The big trainers won’t move here for only a 3 week season. I am for that.

I am going to go out and play with the ponies today. They need to get out and go on the horse walker and walk for a while.

ML Ranch Jewelry spent last evening  taking pictures of new jewelry to go into the online stores.  A goo d share of the new inventory is bracelets. We were low in our collection of them.  This will be good to have more to shop from.

Linda is still working on several more Viking Knit pieces.. She works on them tll her hands hurt from lacing and pulling on the wire.  Linda will switch between new earrings or a necklace for a while and then go back to the knit. The Viking Knit is becoming a new must have on a necklace or choker.

ML Ranch Jewelry finished up the Brass Beauty for Custom Made and got it entered into our project portfolio.  We also uploaded all of the rest of our online jewelry into the portfolio yesterday.  We will have to see how this new partnership with them goes. Hopefully it will be a nice niche for ML Ranch Jewelry to have. You will get it when you see the picture.

I am going to upload a few of last nite’s pictures for you to see.   One of the bracelets is the Brass Knuckle bracelet.

Well it is 6 in the morning here. We will start on the new picture cropping once we have more coffee consumed. Being up since 4 today and after a 20 hour day yesterday we will need coffee to get started. However a nap won’t be to far of also.  Never pass up a nap.

A Day to stay Inside

Well yesterday was a kind of nasty spring day in Idaho –ie the wind blew hard and it snowed or rained all day.  The ponies stayed inside all day and enjoyed being out of the weather.  The forecast for Thursday doesn’t look like it is going to be any better.

On Another note Today—March is MS Month

If you look at the MLRanchJewelry Facebook page you will see some pictures from the MS Active site.  I have MS and have been “officially diagnosed for 13 years”.  I posted these up as I can relate to them.  There a couple of others that I wanted to post but I didn’t want to offend anyone.

I have my good and bad days.  However I have a saying to fight and go on each day (Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying).  I have found the more active I am the longer between bad days are.  As Linda says “ the horses are a lot cheaper than a Nursing Home”.

Enough on that and back to the main reason for the blog

ML Ranch Jewelry

Linda is still working on several more Viking Knit pieces.  She finished one of the knit’s and started on another.  The Viking knit is becoming a new must have on a necklace or choker by our customers . Also the traffic on our Etsy shop has shown that the Viking Knit is the 2nd most favorite in the searches.  I like it and I have a bracelet done in the Antique brass

Linda did take a break from the Viking Knit as her fingers were hurting from the working of the pattern. She started a pair of Silver Plate Wire Earrings.  These earrings are going to be awesome with the Wire Work and crystals on them.

We will try to get more pictures of jewelry to add to the online stores. We will let you know when we start.

A Day that every day should be like

 The Ponies

Yesterday was an a day that was gorgeous.  The temps were in the low 50’s and the wind was almost nothing. The wind being a gentle 2-3mph breeze made the day a nice day to be out in and to enjoy.  We don’t get to many of these spring days. Today it is raining just enoughto make it miserable to be out in.

I got a chance to ride my mare yesterday.  Fallon was a pain in my behind.  She wanted to keeping going through th bit and wanted to run.  She hasn’t been rode in 5 months is part of the problem.  Fallon being a Walker mare is one that wants to step out at a fast pace. She took about an hour and a lot of circles to finally slow down.  She is going to have to be ridden more the next 6 weeks before we take cows to the hills. She will be my backup horse to use if I can’t use my stud colt.  She also may get rode by one of the other fellas that come out to help.

Linda is still working on several more Viking Knit pieces.  She finished one of the knit’s and started on another.  The Viking knit is becoming a new must have on a necklace or choker by our customers.

The other project Linda is working on is a wire wrapped pendant on a antique brass Viking Knit Choker.  She has it pretty much done but we are still discussing it’s length.  It is designed without a clasp, so it must be able to go over the head.  I am leaning on shortening it and Linda wants it to stay the present length.  Linda is going to have one of her friends come over and look at it. Linda will go from there on the final length.

A Day short of Hurricane Strength Windy Monday at the Ranch

A Day short of Hurricane Strength Windy Monday at the Ranch

Well Monday was a Day of Wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. The temperature wasn’t bad but with the wind it was just a cold, windy miserable day. I went out to feed and as I got there the Kids from the Alternate School showed up.  They took turns leading the 2 mares around and grooming them. I also had them shovel horse dung and put fresh shavings in the stalls. The kids love working with the horses but they don’t like cleaning stalls. As I tell them I have a stall fork that fits their hands.  They grumble a bit but they clean and re-bed the stalls anyway.  The time they spend out there is time away from school and which they do enjoy.

Linda is working on several more Viking Knit pieces.. She finished one of the knit’s and started on another. The Viking knit is becoming a new must have on a necklace or choker.

ML Ranch Jewelry finished the list of new jewelry to be added to the online stores.  We will be taking some more pictures this week and add another group of new jewelry to the online stores.

ML Ranch Jewelry will work today on adding the Brass Beauty to the Custom Made site. This piece should be a great addition to the site. We have one other piece that we are working on to add to the site shortly. We are going to be able to start bidding on jobs that are posted to the Custom Made site.

Well off to working on the Brass Beauty addition today.

A Windy Weekend at the Ranch

A Windy Weekend at the Ranch

Well it is Spring in Idaho. This means the wind blows 30 days out of 30 days each month.  It also means that 25 days the wind speed is above 20 mph.  Well it filled both of those requirements this weekend.

I rode my Stud colt on Saturday in the wind.  The colt didn’t mind the wind, what he did mind was being away from the stalls and his Ladies. He would go along for awhile then he wouldn’t work and start for the stalls. I tried to fight him at first to get him to do what I wanted.  That didn’t work the best, it was a draw on who won.  I finally had him  stop and take a breather, then I would start him to move and guide him to go in the direction I wanted. I would also speed him up when he was going the right way.

Today I wanted to ride my Walker Mare however 5o mph wind gusts won. I stayed home and worked on pictures and jewelry write ups.

ML Ranch Jewelry

Linda is working on several more Viking Knit pieces. We have had several ladies here in town request necklaces and chokers using the Viking Knit pattern. She should have one of the pieces finished on Monday.  It is a Sterling Silver wire piece.

ML Ranch Jewelry is almost done with the new jewelry inventory that needs to go on line. The editing of the pictures is what slows the process down.  We have found that using the picture library on the computer the way to go when editing.  It allows you to see the picture without having to select on a picture file and wait for it to show up in the picture window.  This has cut down on the editing time by half.

Linda’s Bionic Hip

Linda is improving each day with the new hip.  She has even drove the car on a couple of short errands this weekend. She has said she is not up to a long trip but a short trip is working for her.  I was hoping she would wait a few more days before driving.  I can’t say to much though.  I only waited 3 weeks instead of the Doc’s 6 weeks before getting back on a horse after a horse had broken my back.

A Good Day at the Ranch

A Good Day at the Ranch

I went out and worked my stud colt in the round pen.  He needed to get exercised more than just being on the walker.  I lunged him for about 20 minutes.  He actually worked good for not being on a lunge line.  He is going to start getting rode more.  I need to get him ready to take him to the hills in ~6 weeks when the cows go up.

Here is a pic of Alf. He is a 10 mos old mule. It is hard to see that he is a mule in these pics.

ML Ranch Jewelry

Linda finished the Viking Knit Choker and Necklace for the Custom Made Project. Here are a few pictures of the Custom Made Project called “Brass Beauty” . The real neat thing is the White Jade ball spins free in a wirework setting.  Not to many jewelry pieces have this feature.

ML Ranch Jewelry is slowly working off the new inventory that needs to go on line. The editing of the pictures and putting the logo and copy write on each picture is what slows the process down.  I did find that if I save my pictures to the picture library it makes it easier to do these actions as you can see a thumbnail of each picture before you work on it. Previously I was saving the pictures in a folder on the C drive.  To edit I had to click on each one to pull them up to see the picture and then to decide whether to use them.

Linda’s Bionic Hip

Linda goes into the Doc this afternoon to get her stitches out and see how the Doc feels how she is doing.  I have to remind her don’t bend over.  She is getting better at using her grabber tool to pick up stuff she has dropped.   She really wants to be able to wash her hair in the sink and to take a shower. We will see what the Doc says.
